Discussion:
WMP 11 Skin
(too old to reply)

Hi there:
I just downloaded a new skin for WMP 11 and now I can't get it to open at
all. Everytime I try all I get is a MS popup window advising me - "Windows
Media Player has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop
working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available."
Then another popup window shows - " cablemusic.com" which I guess is the
skin I downloaded. Any ideas on how I get my WMP 11 back? I can locate this
skin on my computer or in the skins WMP 11 skins file?

What's the fault information for the crash?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
will help you look that up if you don't know how.

You can reset the skin currently set by deleting the registry value named
"CurrentSkin" under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins

Thanks for the info. I'm really not a computer whiz so not really sure what
your looking for. When I click on the - WMP 11 icon to open it the 1st drop
box opens saying " Windows media player has stopped working. Windows is
checking for a solution to this problem." Then a 2nd one opens saying -
"Windows Media Player has stopped working. A problem caused the program to
stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available." Then for a quick flashing moment another box opens
and closes but I caught the name on it, which is - Cablemusic.com - which I
assume is the name of the last skin that I downloaded and which is causing me
all the grieve.

By the way I'm running in Windows Vista Home Premium if you need to know that.

Actually, this isn't a skin, it's a broken visualization, it appears.

How did you install the AlbumArt3D visualization? You would want to
uninstall that and then your system would work again.

Can you uninstall the visualization from the Add/Remove Programs control
panel?

If not, rename the file AlbumArt3D.dll to AlbumArt3D-bad.dll and you should
likely stop crashing.

No. I do not see it there. I did find the two visualizations from
Soundspectrum; Softskies & Whitecap & uninstalled them, but to no avail.
After that I opened WMP 11 file location, then the visualizations files
(there are two of them) and found in the following: "Name - AlbumArt3D.dll
Date Modified - 3/19/2006 7:08pm Type - Application Extension Size
536KB. Would tht be the culprit? As
this all started just on the 6/19/2008 when I first started to download all
this stuff.

Question? If this is the culprit. To rename it - do I do that in the WMP 11
visualization file where I found it? I know that sounds like a dumb question
but I was always told there is never a dumb question - always answers. so
bear with me. Thanks

As for your send response on how to correct/reset the skin back to it's
original state - at a loss on what you want me to do???? Where do I go? I
look in the WMP skins file and did not find any new skins? Sorry

Thanks for the info. I'm really not a computer whiz so not really
sure
what
your looking for. When I click on the - WMP 11 icon to open it the
1st
drop
box opens saying " Windows media player has stopped working. Windows is
checking for a solution to this problem." Then a 2nd one opens saying -
"Windows Media Player has stopped working. A problem caused the
program
to
stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify
you if
a
solution is available." Then for a quick flashing moment another box opens
and closes but I caught the name on it, which is - Cablemusic.com -
which
I
assume is the name of the last skin that I downloaded and which is
causing me
all the grieve.
By the way I'm running in Windows Vista Home Premium if you need to
know
that.

What's the fault information for the crash?
http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#bucket
will help you look that up if you don't know how.
You can reset the skin currently set by deleting the registry
value
named
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\Skins

I just downloaded a new skin for WMP 11 and now I can't get it
to
open at
all. Everytime I try all I get is a MS popup window advising me -
"Windows
Media Player has stopped working. A problem caused the program
to
stop
working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you
if a
solution is available."
Then another popup window shows - " cablemusic.com" which I
guess is
the
skin I downloaded. Any ideas on how I get my WMP 11 back? I can
locate
this
skin on my computer or in the skins WMP 11 skins file?

Just thought I'd let you know that I went ahead into the land of unknown for
me and did what you suggested. Renamed that AlbumArt3d.dll to
AlbumArt3d-bad.dll and then restarted my computer. When I went to open WMP 11
then a skin box opened that said something about registering with
"cablemusic.com" and I had to go through some various steps but when I
clicked on the normal mode button it brought it back to the WMP 11....Thank
you for all your suggestions and help. It's nice to know that there are
people out there that people like myself can go to. This is basically how
I've learn't about computers - trial & error and travelling into the land of
the unknown and not being afraid to do so.

Thank you once again for all your help. I'm hoping this is it for now

Thanks

Can you uninstall the visualization from the Add/Remove Programs control
panel?
If not, rename the file AlbumArt3D.dll to AlbumArt3D-bad.dll and you should
likely stop crashing.

I just looked to see what the two visualizations were - softskies & whitecap
from www.Soundspectrum.com When I clicked on the visualizations download
button it took me to that area and those ones looked good so I downloaded
them. The two skins I downloaded were - charlies angels & I can't remember
the other one except that evertime I try to open WMP 11 a box quickly flashes
open then closes & it says "cablemusic.com" on it.

Oh, ok? Sorry I thought it was. Isn't that what they're called?
I went in through the WMP 11 visualization section and downloaded it through
that.
I downloaded two visualizations & two skins, but it's when the 2nd skin was
downloaded that all the trouble started.

Actually, this isn't a skin, it's a broken visualization, it appears.
How did you install the AlbumArt3D visualization? You would want to
uninstall that and then your system would work again.
